Huîtres Amélie – Barcelona

mad 69 _DSC5349
For the ultimate champagne and oyster experience then French brand  Huîtres Amélie is a must, the brand is globally recognized by gastronomy experts as one of the leaders in Oyster production at the upmost quality. This culinary delight comes from the region Marennes-Oléron in France and is the only designation of origin that exists among this type of ocean products. From there Huîtres  Amélie cultivates, pampers and brings to everybody this exquisite delicatessen so appreciated by the world.

Barcelona has two branches, one in the world famous Boqueria Market, though if you are after a calmer experience then we suggest heading to the pop up branch located at El Corte Ingles in Plaza Catalunña, the famed Spanish department store were Huîtres Amélie has a chic bar space in the food hall, with expert staff on hand to guide you through the dining experience.

On our visit to the branch at El Corte Ingles we got to experience some of Huîtres Amélie’s signature dishes first hand.  If you are new to oysters then we recommend the dish we had, which was the Amélie Sensations (priced at 25€)   tasting menu which includes three oysters; smoked and vaporised with premium liquors (whisky, gin and vodka) with a glass of champagne. The whole presentation was a marvel to the eye that elevated the whole dining experiences, first the oysters were smoked which consisted of a glass vessel encasing the oyster while wood smoke was pumped into a passage opening, known as the “Amélie Fumée” method, then an atomiser is used to infuse them with the spirit of your choice, we went for the whiskey and lastly an oyster with champagne gelée. The oysters themselves are beautifully presented in branded ice trays upon which 2 oysters are places with mini plastic syringes of condiments and lemon juice to add as you wish.

We didn’t have much experience with oysters before but these tasted beautiful, no over bearing salty aftertaste instead a mild and delicate flavour provided by the smoke and infusion process.

A selection of small dishes are also available to compliment your oyster experience, these include tuna tartar, Iberian ham, salmon and salt foie gras with champagne jelly. From the selection we tried the salmon and Iberian ham and they were both delicious and added to the whole experience, and not to mention the glass of champagne to top it off, after all it is a French brand!

So next time you are in Barcelona and fancy a truly unique gastronomy experience and at a reasonable price point then champagne and oysters at Huîtres Amélie is highly recommended, a beautiful location (perfect for pre or post shopping!) a tasty product and helpful warm staff to guide you, a must.

Shepherd’s Bush may not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking about rest and relaxation but thanks to its K – Spa it should be!

Housed in the K West hotel (a stone’s throw from the famous Westfield shopping centre) K – Spa offers a range of treatments and experiences to pamper yourself.

So highly recommended that it won the Best Spa in London’ at the Good Spa Guide Awards 2015 and winner of a World Luxury Spa Award, K West’s holistic spa offers a range of exclusive treatments.  K Spa introduced the first ‘Snow Paradise’ to London, which mimics the Finnish experience of alternating between freezing and steamy environments.  The unique ‘Sun Meadow’ offers specialist light therapy to treat SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and the Nail Bar is the place to be pampered.  The spa also features a twinkling hydrotherapy pool, sanarium, sauna, dry flotation tank, aromatic herbal steam room and the fully equipped K Fit gymnasium.

On a recent visit we got to experience a treatment ourselves, the Men’s C+ Energy Facial (from £85). The 50 minute facial comes highly recommended by the helpful Spa staff to relax and also combat signs of ageing.

The treatment mixes together an array of ingredients including plant extracts, trace elements and vitamins, all specifically designed to meet the needs of men’s skin, often irritated by shaving and combat fine lines and wrinkles. The experience was a dream, with the beautiful designed room dimly lit for an extra lux experience, after working your face the experience ends with a neck and shoulder massage to alleviate tension.

An experience to remember K Spa offers a truly indulgent experience and a great addition to the West London beauty scene, no need to journey in central!. A beautifully designed space (not too girly) with modern facilities along with a very helpful and skilled staff.

Kopparberg X Leutton Postle – Exclusive Interview

Couple1 Mens_solo womens_cutout
Leutton Postle_ studio_portrait
Swedish drinks company Kopparberg have collaborated with London-based knitwear label Leutton Postle on ‘The Kopparberg’, a luxurious knitted unisex jumper for winter.

The new design takes inspiration from warm Kopparberg’s Spiced Apple cider with a white base adorned with pops of red and green. Tones of yellow and blue also feature, referencing the golden yellow leaves found in the Swedish town of Kopparberg at this time of year and the town’s lake.

For its creation Leutton Postle visited the town of Kopparberg for research, coming up with a design that best reflects the vibe there and creating a stylish yet comfortable design, a fresh deconstructed take on the traditional ‘fair isle’ knit pattern.

Since graduating from London’s Central Saint Martins in 2005 the brand’s pieces have featured in publications including Vogue, i-D, Dazed & Confused and Nylon.

Commenting on the collaboration, Leutton Postle said….

‘We designed ‘The Kopparberg’ to have an offbeat yet wearable design and want the owner to feel stylish, individual and, most of all, warm and cosy inside and out!’

Azzarenko spoke exclusively to Sam Leutton and Jenny Postle, the designers behind Leutton Postle about their new project and knitwear tips for winter.

Tell us a bit about the Kopparberg collaboration and what the thought process was for the final jumper?
S – Kopparberg wanted to collaborate with a knitwear label for their cosy Spiced Apple Cider, seemed like the perfect fit. The jumper is typically Leutton Postle in that it patterned and very colourful but with a little twist as we took inspiration from Kopparberg’s heritage, the town itself and traditional Swedish knitwear patterns.
J -It was really fun to work on the deconstruction of the Swedish knit as it’s such a recognisable textile pattern in its original form.

What do you enjoy about working in knitwear?
S – Knitwear allows you to work with a broad range of colours and textures that are ever evolving
J – I’m a particular fan of the metallic and glittery ones, we love working with lurex and were excited to knit it into The Kopparberg

What’s your top knitwear style tips for the winter season?
S -Just to wear it how ever you feel comfortable!

Anymore menswear coming up?
S – The Kopparberg is the first unisex design we’ve worked on and it’s been great to introduce Leutton Postle to a male audience
J – Although men have been known to wear our female designs before!

Is the brand stocked in the US?
S – The Kopparberg is not but it can still be bought from anywhere including the states. We design and produce our stock in the UK, although we have had some of our designs stocked in H.Lorenzo in Los Angeles. Also, Lady Gaga and Bjork have both worn our designs so the word is definitely starting to spread so who knows what the future holds.

This limited-edition jumper is priced at £150 and available from Machine A in Soho, London and at www.kopparbergleuttonpostle.bigcartel.com.
