Cinnamon Soho is the third restaurant by Vivek Singh located in London’s West End, a stone’s throw from the cobbles of Carnaby Street, sealing Soho’s growing reputation as London’s favourite foodie hot spot. This time, Viviek has loosened his style in favour of comfort food classics and sharing plates. It has been over 10 years since Vivek has helped to define the term ‘Modern Indian Cuisine’ and the Anglo- Indian menu at CinnamonSoho has set new standards and broken new boundaries.

Its all-day menu boasts a distinct Anglo-Indian twist with dishes including the now-famous Bangla-Scotch Egg and the Raganjosh Shepherds pie.

Since its opening the restaurant has been met with great success, in 2012 and 2014 Cinnamon Soho won ‘Best Menu’ at the London Restaurant Festival Awards; his famous Bangla Scotch egg was included in ‘The 100 Best Small Dishes in London 2012’ category by Time Out; and his popular dish of Lambs’ brains was awarded 2nd runner up from Best In Taste of London. Head Chef Ramachandran Raju – who has worked under the Cinnamon umbrella for over a decade – also won the Ethnic Chef Award at the Craft Guild of Chefs  Awards 2014.

We recently paid a visit to try out its dinner service on a rainy London evening. Cinnamon Soho specialises in smaller tapas style dishes, ideal for sharing among friends making it a great light option. Larger mains are also available.

To start the mean I went for the Slow Braised Pork Belly (£7), the delicious pork belly chunks come glazed in honey and chilli for that extra kick. The pork was tender and tasty, and large enough to share.

Next up I opted for the grilled King Prawns (£17) with a side of black lentils (£4.00) and potato paratha flatbread (£3.50). The dish comprises of 3 large prawn in a rich coconut sauce alongside some white ride. The prawn were tender and flavoursome with the coconut sauce mixing great with the rice and texture of the prawns.

The real highlight were the black lentils, which are simmered for 24 hours, the lentils are delicious and my only comment would be that they came as a larger portion! The potato paratha flatbread made for a great dipping companion.

To finish things off I opted for the Shrikhand Cheesecake (£6) for dessert, the cake comes deconstructed with a piece of shortbread topped with a scoop of cream cheese mixture. The dessert is a bit on the small side but light, a tasty end to a delicious meal.

Alongside its main food menu, Cinnamon Soho offers a large selection of drinks, from wines, Champagne and cocktails. Cocktails are priced from £8 and our recommendation would be the Burning with Passion – vodka over proof rum, orange juice, passion fruit and strawberry puree, a refreshing and tasty mixture.
