The ever popular Shoreditch district of London has welcomed another new addition to its growing list of foodie destinations, with the arrival of Boneyard.

Boneyard is the new concept from restaurateur and businessman Robert Newmark, the man responsible for the Beach Blanket Babylon restaurants/bars.

The space was previously a petrol station, and the restaurant has used this unconventional heritage in its layout and design paying a nod to its old use, with exposed industrial feel and drink stations aligned to were the petrol station’s convenience store shelves used to sit.

Those visiting enter through a heavy black door with a reclaimed brass porthole window and once inside are met with a large and spacious dining area, with communal tables and bar seating areas.

The menu, like its interiors, is inspired by classic American comfort food – buttermilk fried chicken, American smoked ribs, tater tots and burgers. The menu also features a bone marrow burger, as well as a boneless burger, with sides of golden crinkle-cut fries, crispy onion ring and chilli con carne crisps. All orders are served ticket style and collected from the helpful staff.

On out visit we gave a few of the menu options a try, having never had a bone marrow burger a go we took a punt on this as our main. The burger was juicy and tasty, and also quite large, so be prepared. Alongside this rather than the standard fries/chips option we went for the interesting sounding chilli con carne crisps, and again the results were satisfying. The waffle like ‘crisps’ were just that, crispy and delicious and a slightly lighter option that standard fries. The chilli which sat on top of it was flavourful and accompanied the crisps well.

The rack of ribs was also a highlight, large and a rich tangy sauce which we paired with the house coleslaw.

To wash it all down we opted from some of the milkshakes on offer, my recommendation is the salted caramel! Though they come in a rather small size they make up for in flavour, absolutely try one!

Boneyard is perfectly located, a stone throws from Shoreditch House and Brick lane and all of the area’s highlights. The spot is great for a quick bite to eat or a longer meal with friends, also if you want to do a spot of work while you’re there then make use of the plug sockets and free WiFi.

Our meal for two came to around the £50 mark.
